Notice the pattern: a planet's exalted sign and its debilitated sign are always exactly opposite each other in the zodiac.

What does exaltation mean?

Traditionally, a planet in its exaltation sign is considered to express its qualities with unusual ease and strength — it's "at home" in a sign that amplifies rather than restricts it. An exalted planet is generally read as a point of strength in the chart.

What does debilitation mean?

The opposite condition: a planet in its debilitation sign is considered weakened by sign dignity — its usual qualities are harder for it to express fully, and its traditional significations may need more support from elsewhere in the chart to come through clearly.

Does exalted always mean good?

No. House placement, lordship, aspects, conjunctions and the overall chart context all shape how an exalted planet actually plays out. An exalted planet that also rules a difficult house, or sits combust, or is heavily afflicted by malefic aspects, doesn't get a free pass just because of its sign dignity.

Does debilitated always mean bad?

Also no. A debilitated planet can still produce constructive results depending on the complete chart — its house placement, its relationship to other planets, and specific cancellation combinations can all soften or even reverse the traditional reading of debilitation.
